In short
- Your operator uses Transit Ops for the sign-on check, trip guidance and contact with the control room.
- Your answers, your phone's location while you're connected to a trip, and what you send are recorded for your operator.
- Your operator decides how the records are used. Transit Ops doesn't use them for anything else.
What is recorded
- Your sign-on answers: drugs or alcohol, fatigue, pre-departure check, fuel or charge, bus number and speedometer.
- Defect reports and any photos you take.
- Your phone's location and speed while you are connected to a trip. The latest position replaces the previous one; a position is kept with a late reason or help request.
- Late reasons, help requests, messages you acknowledge, passenger counts and your end-of-shift feedback.
- Voice commands, as text only. The phone's browser (Google on Android, Apple on iPhone) turns your speech into text; Transit Ops never receives a recording. The microphone is only on when you switch it on.
Why
So your operator can confirm you are fit to drive and the bus is safe, support you during the trip, and keep accurate service records. If you answer yes to drugs or alcohol, the screen stops you connecting to a trip that day and tells you to report to a supervisor. The screen also locks while the bus is moving, so you can't be distracted by it.
Who sees it
Supervisors, controllers and administrators at your operator, and Transit Ops staff who support the service. It isn't shared with other operators or published.
Your choices
Answering the sign-on check is a condition of using the driver screen. If you don't want to use it, talk to your supervisor about other ways your operator records fitness-for-duty and vehicle checks. You can switch the microphone and sound off at any time. Location is used only while you are connected to a trip, and stops when you finish or close the screen.
